We appeal to Hamburg authorities to immediately review decision
We are devastated by the news that one of the laboratories belonging to the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology (LPT), the company at the centre of last year’s joint investigation by Cruelty Free International and SOKO Tierschutz, is being allowed to reopen.
Our investigation into the LPT site at Mienenbüttel in Germany uncovered shocking levels of animal suffering and breaches of European animal testing laws.
LPT’s Neugraben site has now been allowed to resume operations following a ruling from a Hamburg court, despite initially being closed down half a year ago. Neugraben, a contract testing facility for experiments on mice and rats, was the focus of allegations against LPT of fabrication of evidence.
The breaches of legislation, the appalling levels of suffering, the cruelty, the poor conditions and practices resulting in unnecessary animal suffering as a result of the neglect shown by LPT were unacceptable. We appeal to the Hamburg authorities to immediately review its decision to license LPT Neugraben to resume animal experiments.
We are also concerned that there is now a risk other LPT laboratories, including Mienenbüttel, could reopen and that experiments on dogs, monkeys and other animals will begin again.
